Preparing for the trip
Facts about the Boat
Rivertime is equipped with a ramp and a lift so that wheelchairs can have safe access to the boat. The lift platform has removable guard rails and lowers all the passengers to cabin floor level and straight into the saloon. There is a toilet for the disabled.
So far as the dimensions are concerned they are as follows:
- Overall lift platform size - 53 x 34 inches
- Platform size within guard rails - 49 x 32 inches
- Cabin door width - 33 inches
- Toilet compartment doorwary - 27.5 inches, once inside there is plenty of room.
IT IS HIGHLY ADVISABLE THAT NON STANDARD WHEELCHAIRS ARE MEASURED IN ADVANCE TO AVOID DISAPPOINTMENT ON THE DAY.
We are licensed to carry 12 passengers with a maximum of 5 wheelchairs. Experience has shown that this allows a party of 12 sufficient space to move around comfortably and for wheelchair users to have good visibility of the passing scenery.
Rivertime is crewed by a qualified skipper and crew member who have responsibility for the operation of the boat. Those booking the boat are responsible for the care and first aid of their party whilst on the boat. Each Wheelchair User requires his or her own carer. Life jackets of a range of sizes are provided on request.
On board Rivertime
Please ask everyone to wear suitable warm wind proof clothing and flat soled shoes. Rivertime has 2 large sliding roof hatches which when open provide the passengers the feel of the great outdoors. Even in summer the wind chill factor on the river can be quite considerable. On a hot day please do not forget to bring with you suntan lotion, sunglasses and hats for your group.
The Galley is equipped with a microwave, fridge and kettle as well as tea, coffee and sugar. Please bring with you milk and any other snacks and drinks. Adult groups may wish to bring alcohol on board to consume with a meal.
The Cabin is open plan with some fixed bench seating and plenty of moveable seats. When the Skipper phones you, prior to your trip, they will want to know the composition of the group so that the appropriate numbers of chairs are on board. They will also want to know your groups eating arrangements. Suggestions are either to bring packed lunches, a buffet or a readymade meal to be heated up on board. There are 2 tables permanently on board measuring approx 2.5 x 1 metre. These can be set up on the day to suit your needs. Alternatively the River and Rowing Museum Cafe is open between 10.00 and 17.00 serving hot and cold food. To book a table phone the cafe direct on 01491 579215.
Other facilities include Central Heating throughout, Radio/CD Player and a selection of Educational Material for people to use if they wish. Your Crew are very knowledgeable and would be happy to answer any questions you have about the passing scenery.
